Studio Deremetz is an office for design in Berlin

I’ve been interested in building a roof like this for a long time; the structural principles behind it are impressively simple! So is marking out the rafters. The lightness and elegance of the roof structure are emphasised by the cedar shingles, the integrated ridge and the delicate eaves detailing. The 35° roof pitch lends the roof a certain elegiac tranquillity, an unhurried naturalness that serves as a haven of calm in time and space.

The building serves as a meditation retreat; if you leave the door open, you can hear the surf crashing against the pier wall on Inch Island.
